Seahawks take WR Paul Richardson with first pick

The Seahawks finally used a pick, taking Colorado receiver Paul Richardson in the second round (45th overall).

Richardson is small—he’s listed at 6-foot, 175 pounds—but has a ton of speed, as is evident in his 4.33-second 40-yard dash time at the combine. Not surprisingly, this wasn’t a pick many people saw coming for Seattle. It’s not that the Seahawks weren’t expected to look for a receiver in this draft, but Richardson wasn’t considered by many to best receiver still available (most had him as a third-round pick). But we all know by now that the Seahawks don’t care much for what anyone else thinks.

Richardson missed the 2012 season with a torn ACL, but came back strong last year setting a school record with 83 catches for 1,343 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Here’s a highlight video:

Also, this article in the Denver Post notes that, while Richardson didn’t do much returning in college, he has been working on it this offseason with hopes of finding a role as a rookie where he landed. With Golden Tate gone to Detroit, the Seahawks need a punt returner, so perhaps Richardson will get a look there.
