Seems like yesterday

50 years ago (1964)

Kathy Waltz, Sandy Stewart and Dave Williams were chosen to be commencement speakers for the Everett High School Class of 1964. Those selected for the same honor at Cascade High School were Roger Eklund, Ron Brawn and Shirley Geary.

Airman Johnnie Testa, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Testa of Stanwood, was at Chanute AFB, Ill., training as an aircraft equipment repairman at the Air Training Command School.

25 years ago (1989)

The salty seas days were over for one sailor. After 50 years of scouring the ocean, fisherman Nick Barhanovich figured he’d earned the right to sink into an easy chair. Barhanovic said he was now semi-retired and that his son was taking over the business. He added that he’d fished all over the world from the Bering Sea to San Pietro in Mexico.

The old Priest Point Grange was the daily school pick-up point for Sally Niver and her son Darrell, 8, and daughter Lacey, 6. Niver walked about three miles every day to greet her children. She said she was concerned about their safety and that it made for a nice walk.
