SEATTLE ? The University of Washington routed Brigham Young 9-0 on Friday in the second round of the NCAA regionals at Husky Softball Stadium.
Whitney Jones hit two home runs and drove in five runs for the Huskies (35-13). Bryana Walker pitched a two-hit shutout. The game was shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.
With the victory, Washington claimed a spot in the regional championship, where the Huskies will have to lose twice in order to be eliminated. Washington plays an opponent to be determined at noon on Saturday. If the Huskies win, they advance to the super regionals. If they lose, a second game will be played at 2:30 p.m., with the winner moving on to the super regionals.
A victory today would be career win No. 400 for UW coach Heather Tarr, who is in her 10th season. She has a career record of 399-177-1.
