Recorder ensemble: A new musical group for people who play or are interested in learning to play the recorder begins 11 a.m.-noon today at Edmonds Lutheran Church, 23525 84th Ave. W. The group will meet three or four Saturdays to learn basics, then switch to every third Saturday on its way to being a beginning woodwind ensemble. Bring your recorder; some extras available. Bethany Hymn Sing: Join Pastor Terry Ollar and the Hymn Sing Orchestra and Singers for a night of singing favorite gospel hymns, 6 p.m. Sunday at Bethany Christian Assembly, 2715 Everett Ave., Everett. Seating is first come, first served. Dessert social following.
Benefit concert: Because of the Brave II, a benefit concert for Operation Xtreme at CRISTA Camps, is set for 7 p.m. Sunday at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N. Operation Xtreme offers school-aged military children the opportunity to spend a week at summer camp. Lecture: Stephen C. Meyer lectures at Chabad of Snohomish County on the topic of his New York Times best-seller “Darwin's Doubt: The Explosive Origin of Animal Life and the Case for Intelligent Design,” 7:30 p.m. May 20. Other classes also are available. The classes are free, but donations to the church food bank are encouraged.
GriefShare, Marysville: Mountain View Presbyterian Church hosts the support group 1:30-3:30 p.m. Thursdays through May 22. Registration is recommended.
