KENT — Lake Stevens jumped out to an early lead, but Vikings starter Branden Kelliher faltered in the fourth inning and South Kitsap won the state regional game 5-2 at Art Wright Field on Saturday morning.
Kelliher got out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the second inning with two strikeouts and a flyout, but couldn't wriggle out of a jam in the fourth. South Kitsap loaded the bases again, but this time Hunter Riley smacked a two-run double to take a 4-2 lead it would never relinquish.
“I think having the whole week off you could tell (Branden) was a little rusty,” said Lake Stevens head coach Rodger Anderson.
Lake Stevens finished its season 15-9.
Kelliher knocked in both Lake Stevens runs with RBI singles in the first and third inning. Corey Bullens had a single and double in both innings and scored the Vikings' second run.
