Edmonds-Woodway baseball loses to No. 1-ranked Puyallup

TACOMA — Despite a complete-game, four-hitter from Edmonds-Woodway starting pitcher Tate Budnick, the Warriors were unable to put any runs across the board and fell to undefeated Puyallup 1-0 in the opening round of the 4A state baseball tournament.
Budnick struck out six and walked none, but an unearned run in the fourth inning was enough to give the senior just his second loss of the season. After an error allowed a runner on base, Puyallup's Tyler McDowell drove in the lone run of the game with a double in the bottom of the fourth.
Edmonds-Woodway loaded the bases with one out in the top of the sixth inning, but was unable to drive any runs across. Both teams finished with just four hits each on the afternoon. Puyallup starter Lane Griffin pitched a complete game, striking out five and walking none to earn the win for the Vikings.
