Published:
KELLOGG, Idaho — A Shoshone County, Idaho, sheriff’s dispatcher confirms there has been “an incident” at the Sunshine Mine near Kellogg but she could not provide any additional details.
Associated Press calls to Sunshine Silver Mines spokeswoman Monica Brisnehan and Shoshone County Sheriff Mitch Alexander were not immediately returned Monday night.
In 2012, a fire was reported inside the silver mine. Twelve people were safely evacuated after a sensor in a vent shaft detected elevated levels of carbon monoxide. That fire burned for several weeks.
Ninety-one men died in the historic Sunshine Mine fire in 1972.
