Regarding the letter, “VA a peek at future of ACA”: Amazing how factually challenged some letters to the editor are. Facts don’t seem to matter, but non-fact opinions seem to hold sway. Case in point, the letter begins by bashing the postal system incapable of making a profit. Untrue, but the GOP having passed the “Future Retiree Health Benefit Act” which requires payment of benefits 75 years in advance over a 10-year period, a business model no business has. But the GOP wants to privatize the Postal Service and wants it to fail. We should all know how privatization turns out, liquor sales? The Postal Service is self-supporting by user fees and receives no tax dollars and is the largest employer of veterans? And has run at a profit, except for having to pay for the benefit plan.
The VA scandal is disappointing, but the GOP sends our troops to unfunded wars and won’t pay for the consequences. This is nothing new. How many times have the Republicans voted down veteran benefits, support the troops — anyone?
Money going to shore up union pension funds, seems to be the opposite, but I do know of bailing out banks for their malfeasance and no one going to jail. All programs struggle at start up, the ACA is no different. It will take time, but I’m happy to have insurance for the first time at an affordable cost.
For those who think “government” is the problem, look in a mirror, you are the government; rather than complain get involved, vote and fix it!
