With the victory, the six-person team earned the right to compete in the worldwide Reebok CrossFit Games on July 25-27 in Carson, Calif.
Members of the team included Noah Pester, 32, Ryan Swobody, 30, Ashleigh Moe, 30, Melissa Dixon, 31, Kyle Flanders, 21, and Kelsey Nagel, 28.
Thirty teams from around the Northwest took part in the regionals, with the top three squads advancing to the worldwide competition. The top three individuals in both the men’s and women’s divisions also advanced.
“It’s a dream come true,” said Pester, a member of the Marysville Fire Department. “It’s hard to believe that a dream to simply open an affiliate to get others excited about CrossFit a few years ago from my garage would eventually lead us to where we are today.”
CrossFit competitions involve athletes being scored on a series of workouts. The workouts, selected by the event organizers, can include calisthenics, weightlifting, running, jumping, swimming, rowing or other physical activities. At the regional competition, CrossFit Marysville competed in eight workouts over a three-day span and emerged with the top score.
