Silvertips sign Dallas-based forward

EVERETT — Last week the Everett Silvertips were reeling because of a player they couldn't sign.
On Tuesday the Tips put one in the other side of the ledger.
Everett received a player commitment when the Tips signed Dallas-based forward Addison Runey to a WHL education contract.
Runey, a 17-year-old who hails from the Dallas suburb of McKinney, Texas, is a non-drafted player who was added to Everett's 50-player protected list late last season. The 5-foot-11, 155-pounder played his 16-year-old season with the Dallas Stars Elite U-16 team, compiling 21 goals, 23 assists and 52 penalty minutes in 41 games.
“Addison is a hard player to play against,” Stars coach Eric Silverman said in a press release put out by the Tips. “He has a history of scoring big goals and producing offensively, but also plays with some sandpaper and can get under the other teams' skin. He's got a lot of upside and it will be fun to watch his development with the Silvertips.”
The Runey signing comes in the wake of 16-year-old forward Tyson Jost, Everett's first-round pick in the 2013 bantam draft, committing to playing next season with the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League instead of the Tips.
“Addison is a well-rounded two-way player and we're excited to welcome him into our program,” Everett general manager Garry Davidson said in the release. “He'll be a quality addition to our roster and we look forward to seeing him in action next season. We made it a point of emphasis recently to have a stronger presence recruiting U.S.-born players, and Addison is the first of what we hope will be many American prospects to become part of our organization.”
