LANGLEY, B.C. — Chris Hall, who led the Washington Stealth to the National Lacrosse League championship in 2010 and three title-game appearances in their four seasons in Everett, announced his retirement as the team’s head coach on Tuesday.
The Stealth relocated to Langley, British Columbia, in June of 2013 and became known as the Vancouver Stealth.
In a team press release, Hall cited “health-related matters” as his reason for leaving the bench, though he said he would remain with the organization as senior advisor to the president.
“Of course this has been a very difficult, yet necessary, decision for me given my devotion to and love for the game and my passion for coaching,” Hall said in the press release. “I have enjoyed every minute of the considerable opportunities I have had to work with many of the game’s greatest players, coaches and administrators.”
Stealth assistant coach Dan Perreault will take over as head coach.
The 64-year-old Hall was diagnosed with throat cancer prior to the 2012 season and took a leave of absence from the team. He returned midway through the season.
Hall ranks third in NLL history in victories with 96 and fourth in playoff wins with 11. He is one of just three coaches to lead two different teams to an NLL championship, having led the Calgary Roughnecks to the title in 2004.
“Words cannot express the appreciation and respect I have for Chris both as a person and as a lacrosse coach,” Stealth president and general manager Doug Locker said. “He is simply the best and he will be greatly missed behind the bench.”
