The state Department of Transportation is holding three community meetings next week to provide updates on the ongoing work to rebuild Highway 530.
The highway was reopened to general traffic May 31, 10 weeks after the Oso mudslide buried a mile-long section of it under 100,000 cubic yards of dirt and debris.
Parts of the highway are still just covered with gravel, and so far only one lane has been open, necessitating a pilot car to guide traffic through the slide area on scheduled runs.
People attending one of the three community meetings will hear about the transportation department’s plan and design for highway work in the coming months.
The meetings will outline the rebuilding plan, what the road is going to look like, its planned alignment through the slide zone and how traffic will be affected during the construction period, department spokesman Travis Phelps said.
The work is still scheduled to be completed by October, Phelps said.
The three meetings will be spread over three days:
Tuesday, 7-9 p.m. at the Darrington Community Center, 570 Sauk Ave, Darrington;
Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at the Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd., Arlington;
Thursday, 7-9 p.m. at the Oso Community Chapel, 22318 Highway 530, Oso.
Updates also will be posted at wsdot.wa.gov/projects/sr530/landslide.
