KING-TV reported that the Washington State Patrol said one of the two troopers who responded Monday evening approached a man who left the truck and was spray painting a circle on the freeway. The State Patrol said that man came at the trooper with a knife and the trooper shot him when a stun gun had no effect.
Medics rushed a man in his 20s to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. There was no immediate word on his condition.
A section of southbound I-5 at the Ship Canal Bridge was shut down for hours. Northbound I-5 traffic slowed as well.
The state Transportation Department has opened the freeway’s express lanes to southbound traffic, diverted some southbound vehicles and posted warning signs as far north as Everett.
