TACOMA — A man who was lying in the street when he was run over by a Tacoma police officer is a soldier based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
The man’s wife identified him to KIRO as 22-year-old Emanuel Andrade.
Susana Andrade told the station he served in Afghanistan and was planning on being discharged next month.
Home surveillance video of the accident about 1 a.m. Saturday shows Andrade get into a car, then get out and lie in the street. A police car approaches slowly and then runs over him.
Police say the officer was looking at his computer screen and didn’t see Andrade, who was wearing dark clothing.
He suffered critical injuries and is in intensive care at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.
