Marshawn reporting and Dempsey rapping: your mixed bag of Wednesday links
First the Seahawks…
Marshawn Lynch decided to report to minicamp despite reports last week that he is unhappy with his contract. The running back did not, however, participate in the practice because of a sore ankle.
Seattle’s newest addition, DT Kevin Williams, welcomes the idea of a more limited role than the one he had for more than a decade in Minnesota.
Darrington High School football players were “on cloud 9” after visiting Seahawks practice Tuesday.
And if you missed it in this space yesterday, some observations from yesterday’s practice.
Seattle’s NFC West rival San Francisco may have a new-look offense this year. Also included in that link is a video discussing the holdouts of a couple of key 49ers players.
The big story in the NFL today is the U.S. Patent Office’s decision to cancel the Washington Redskins’ trademark because the name is “disparaging to Native Americans.”
On the same topic, Esquire magazine with a piece on the rather horrific origins of the term Redskin, written by Baxter Holmes, who was born on the Tulalip Reservation.
Now on a much lighter note, a few soccer/World Cup links…
U.S. national team captain and Sounders star Clint Dempsey should be fine to play after breaking his nose in Monday’s game, but how will the injury affect Deuce, Dempsey’s rapping alter ego? That’s a relevant question (not really) because according to this Wall Street Journal article, Dempsey has a rap album coming out soon. You can even listen to a track off the album if you go to that article. Not a bad effort by athletes-trying-their-hand-at-a-music-career standards.
Jimmy Fallon had some fun at the expense of U.S. national team players, including Sounders defender DeAndre Yedlin.
And that’s not the first time Fallon has singled out Yedlin, or even the first time the Tonight Show host has compared Yedlin to Rihanna.
Finally, if you’re not fortunate enough to have a job that allows you to have the World Cup on in the background while you work, check out this goal scored by Australia’s Tim Cahill this morning. Then watch it again. It’s pretty darn ridiculous.
