TACOMA — A state appeals court has ordered a new trial for Washington’s oldest female prison inmate, an 83-year-old convicted in the shooting death of her husband at their home near Bremerton.
The court in Tacoma said the trial court should have allowed testimony from an expert on post-traumatic stress disorder and battered person syndrome.
The Kitsap Sun reports Prosecutor Russ Hauge could appeal to the state Supreme Court but says he’s prepared for a retrial.
Darlene Green was 79 when 81-year-old Bill Green was fatally shot in 2010 at their home in the community of Illahee. Her defense lawyer argued the death was a suicide. She was convicted in 2012 of manslaughter and is serving a five-year sentence at the Washington Corrections Center for Women in Purdy.
