Three brewers in Snohomish and Island counties were honored in recent state and national brewery competitions.
At the Washington Beer Awards, announced June 14, 460 beers were judged in a competition among 75 state breweries. Among the winners were:
Skookum Brewery, 17925A 59th Ave. NE, Arlington, won a gold medal for Wood and Barrel Aged Strong Beers for its Barren Wood brew. It also earned a silver for Imperial or Double Indian Pale Ales for its Mammoth Jack IPA and a silver for Other Porters for its Brown &Hairy beer.
The American Brewing Co., 180 W. Dayton St., Warehouse 102, Edmonds, won a brown medal for German Hybrid Beers for its American Blonde.
Flyers Restaurant and Brewery, 32295 Highway 20, Oak Harbor, claimed gold for Humbles Blonde Ale and Silver for Barnstormer Brown Ale, both in the English Ales category at the state competition.
Flyers also won gold at the North American Brewers Awards for its Barnstormer Brown Ale in the English Dark Mild category and bronze for Balloon Buster Belgian Dubbel in the Belgian Dubbel category.
At the Los Angeles International Beer Competition announced June 13, Flyers claimed bronze for three beers: Pacemaker Porter in the Robust Porter category, Barnstormer Brown Ale in the English Dark Mild category and Brouwers 8 in the Other Strong Beer category.
