Singles by Brett Kay and Travious Relaford put the winning run at the plate for McCall, who blasted a 2-1 pitch from Everett reliever Cruz Pereira over the left-field fence to give the Volcanoes the series clinching victory.
The Sox took advantage of a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the top of the eighth, scoring two runs in the inning to take a 4-2 lead, which at the time looked like it would be enough to hold on for a victory.
Back-to-back singles by Sheehan Plantas-Arteaga and Kyle Petty followed by a walk to Phillips Castillo loaded the bases for Everett with no outs. After a strikeout by designated hitter Luke Guarnaccia, a wild pitch allowed Plantas-Arteaga to score from third, giving the Aquasox a 3-2 lead. A single by Taylor Smart scored Petty from third to extend Everett’s lead to 4-2. Castillo was thrown out at home plate for the final out of the inning while trying to score from second on Smart’s single.
Everett scored in both the first and the third innings off Volcanoes starter Nicholas Gonzalez to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Center fielder Austin Cousino led off the game with a double to left field, stole third base and later scored on a wild pitch for the first run of the game. In the top of the third inning, a two-out double by Petty drove in Plantas-Arteaga to put Everett up 2-0.
The Volcanoes cut the deficit to just one in the bottom of the third inning. A fielding error by Petty loaded the bases for Salem-Keizer with one out. McCall then grounded out to third base, scoring Tyler Hollick from third base for the Volcanoes first run of the game. In the bottom of the sixth, Everett reliver Vinny Nittoli retired the first two batters of the inning before allowing back-to-back doubles to Jared Deacon and Brett Kay, tying the game 2-2.
Everett starter Ramire Cleto labored through 4 2/3 innings, allowing two hits, striking out four and walking four on way to a no-decision. The one run Cleto allowed was unearned. Petty, who started at first base, finished 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
