Inslee cancels trip to Finland after Farnborough Airshow

Gov. Jay Inslee is cutting short his July trip to Europe. He is visiting the United Kingdom in July for the Farnborough International Airshow, where state officials hope to attract aerospace companies to Washington. He is leading a trade delegation of public officials, and representatives from businesses, training programs and industry groups.

Inslee’s office announced Thursday morning that he has canceled a visit to Finland after the air show, which runs July 14-20.

He had planned to go to Helsinki to meet with government officials and representatives of the Nordic Council of Ministers. He also had meetings scheduled with Nokia, whose mobile devices and services business was acquired by Microsoft in April, and with companies interested in investment opportunities in Washington.

The Finland leg was canceled because Inslee decided to “focus solely on aerospace and the UK,” his spokesman David Postman said in an email to The Herald. “There had been a lot of discussion earlier about the itinerary and what countries would be included on this trip. Finland could very well be a stop on a future trip, and we’ll look at some of the other countries we considered as well.”
