Mariner High School has been awarded a grant for a second year from the Greater Everett Community Foundation. The main goal of the grant, dubbed “Stay in School!,” is to provide access to college entrance exams to students who cannot afford them.
A scholarship fund has been established to support and encourage students to take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT), the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), American College Testing (ACT) and Advanced Placement (AP) exams. The grant has been slightly increased for a total amount of $10,000.
The amount of students taking the exams increased in the first year of the grant. There was a 66 percent increase in students taking the PSAT, and an 8 percent increase in AP tests. This year, 26 juniors used the grant funds to pay for 34 college entrance exams, 14 for the ACT and 20 for the SAT.
