EVERETT — There’s a debate in the baseball statistical world about whether clutch hitters truly exist. But for one night, Juremi Profar tried his best to prove they do.
The Spokane infielder had three RBI singles, all with two out, leading the Indians to a 10-4 Northwest League victory over the Everett AquaSox on Friday night at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Profar, an 18-year-old from Curacao and the younger brother of Texas Rangers top prospect and former Indians star Jurickson Profar, came to the plate three times with runners in scoring position and two out. He rolled a two-run single to left in the first inning, then lined RBI singles to center in both the third and fifth. His hits drove home four of Spokane’s first five runs, including the run that snapped a 4-4 tie in the fifth and gave the Indians the lead for good.
In contrast, Everett couldn’t come up with a clutch hit when needed late in the game, leaving the bases loaded in the sixth when trailing by three.
Eduard Pinto and Seth Spivey each added two hits and two runs for Spokane, which improved to a league-best 12-2.
Brett Thomas homered and Chris Mariscal added a pair of doubles to lead Everett (4-11), which dropped its third straight overall and sixth straight at home.
