Here's a fun bit of trivia that didn't make my June 9 story about the new police chief in Granite Falls:

David Bowman, a Snohomish County sheriff's sergeant, took up the assignment earlier this year.

Years ago, in the early 2000s, he was on the graveyard shift with the sheriff's office, and Granite Falls was part of his beat.

In police lingo, Granite Falls was known as the 12 beat, he said.

That designation is part of the “call signal” officers use to identify themselves on the radio.

For a couple of years, Bowman's call signal was “1-Adam-12.”

Sound familiar?

That was the name of the police unit in the TV show, “Adam-12,” about LAPD, that ran in the 1960s and 1970s.

Bowman thought that was pretty neat.

“It's an old black and white TV show,” he said. “That's my Granite Falls greatest memory, that I got to do that. I always had a lot of fun out there.”
