HILLSBORO, Ore.— The Everett AquaSox’s winning ways didn’t last long.
Everett found itself back on the losing side Tuesday evening as the Sox fell 3-1 to the Hillsboro Hops in Northwest League action.
Everett, which has struggled much of the season, was hoping Monday’s dramatic ninth-inning comeback, which ended a five-game losing streak, would inspire the Sox to continued success.
However, Everett was unable to generate offense Tuesday. The Sox were limited to seven base hits, all of them singles. After scoring the game’s opening run in the top of the second inning, Everett managed just three baserunners the rest of the way, none of whom advanced past first base.
Jordan Parr went 2-for-3 to lead Hillsboro (12-7), which leads the South Division. Starting pitcher Brent Jones earned the win, allowing just one run in 52/3 innings. Relievers Dustin Loggins and Cody Geyer combined to allow just one single during their 31/3 innings, with Geyer picking up the save with a perfect ninth.
Jordan Cowan went 2-for-3 to lead Everett (5-14), which finds itself well off the pace in the North Division. The Sox actually received a solid outing from its pitching staff as Noel De La Cruz, Kody Kerski and Sam Lindquist combined on a five-hitter. But De La Cruz took the loss, allowing three runs in four innings.
Everett opened the scoring in the second, loading the bases on three consecutive singles. Taylor Smart followed with a sacrifice fly to right to give the Sox a 1-0 lead.
Hillsboro turned the lead around in the third. Elvin Soto’s triple to center drove home one run, and he later scored on George Roberts’ groundout to short as the Hops went ahead 2-1.
Hillsboro tacked on another run in the fourth when Parr led off with a double to left and eventually came around to score on a pair of infield grounders, and that proved more than enough for the Hops.
