TACOMA — A jury in Tacoma acquitted a man Wednesday in his second murder trial for a stabbing outside a Spanaway tavern six years ago.
The lawyer for 53-year-old Carl Smith says Pierce County Superior Court jurors didn’t believe prosecutors made their case.
The News Tribune reports Smith and three other men were convicted of stabbing Dana Beaudine in 2008. A state court of appeals threw out their convictions in 2012. The three other defendants made deals with prosecutors that resulted in credit for time served if they testified against Smith at his retrial.
Prosecutors said the men attacked Beaudine after he made a disparaging remark about a motorcycle club.
