La Conner bridge reopens after false alarm
County Public Works Director Dan Berentson said Thursday night that a state Transportation Department inspection team checked the Rainbow Bridge and found no damage.
The bridge across the Swinomish Channel links the town of La Conner and the Swinomish Reservation.
Earlier in the day, a tipster reported seeing an object — possibly a piece of concrete — fall from the bottom of the structure and into the channel.
Skagit County owns the arch bridge, which is painted red, unlike other typical green road bridges in Washington.
A section of the I-5 bridge over the Skagit River fell into the water on May 23, 2013, after a truck carrying a tall load hit the bridge in Mount Vernon. Two other vehicles fell into the river; three people were rescued with minor injuries.
