Shari Jenkins, a certified financial planner in Waddell &Reed’s Lynnwood office, has been named to Waddell &Reed’s 2014 President’s Council. It is one of its highest honors for the firm’s financial advisors. This is the fourth time she has received this honor. Jenkins has been a professional in the financial services industry for 30 years.
Four physicians of The Everett Clinic were chosen by their peers and named Top Doctors 2014 by Seattle Magazine. The magazine surveyed Puget Sound physicians about who they would seek out for their own care or for a loved one. Those named include Mike Rohrenbach, family medicine, Harbour Pointe Clinic; Deborah Zaret, Harbour Pointe Pediatrics; Paul McBride, allergy; and Thao Pascual, nephrology.
Top Insurance Associates, a broker located in Everett has hired two new insurance sales associates. Dylan Gaddy specializes in business insurance with a focus on contractors bonds and insurance. Megan Smith specializes in home and auto insurance. TOP Insurance Associates is an all-lines insurance agency providing a diversified portfolio of personal and commercial insurance products.
Cascade Regional Eye Center, The Harman Eye Clinic in Arlington, has acquired a new owner. Bruce J. Ballon, MD has sold 50 percent of the practice to Bruce E. Wietharn, MD. The two doctors will alternately share the role of president and CEO annually in addition to their services as ophthalmologists and eye surgeons since 2002 and 2004 respectively.
Kudos
The City of Mountlake Terrace was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2012 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. It is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
After winning three awards at the Master Builders of King &Snohomish Counties REX Awards, Howard Chermak, president of Chermak Construction, drove to Pasco to the Building Industry Association of Washington’s annual BIAW awards event to accept three more. This year, the Edmonds-based company has brought home awards on both local and state levels.
Good deeds
Washington State Employees Credit Union (WSECU) and the Manufactured Home Recreational Vehicle Show Association have teamed up in support of Washington State Parks. In a ceremony held June 26 in Olympia, the organizations presented a $14,608 donation to the state’s public spaces. For the past two years, WSECU has been the presenting sponsor for the biggest regional recreational vehicle trade shows in Western Washington.

The McClain Insurance team and the PEMCO WALLY Van will kick off Everett’s Summer Outdoor Movie Series, Cinema Under the Stars, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 11 at Thornton A. Sullivan Park on Silver Lake. Pre-show entertainment is followed by the movie “Frozen.” McClain Insurance Services is a long-time sponsor of Cinema Under the Stars.
Snohomish County Legal Services, a free legal aid program serving Snohomish County residents experiencing poverty, is hosting a free Facing Foreclosure Legal Assistance Clinic from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on July 16 at 2731 Wetmore Avenue, Suite 410, Everett. To schedule an appointment, call 425-258-9283, ext. 16. Staff and volunteer attorneys will follow up with clients on a case-by-case basis, as needed, after the event.
Pacific Northwest Aerospace Alliance is hosting its first Women in Aerospace Luncheon on July 25 at the Museum of Flight in Seattle to recognize the accomplishments of women in the changing aerospace industry. The three-hour luncheon is open to men and women. Cost for the event is $75 for PNAA members and $100 for non-members. Go to www.pnaa.net for information.
The Bill Baker Memorial Steel &Wheel SuperShow is coming back to Everett in August. The annual hot rod and motorcycle show will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 16 at Machinists Union District Lodge 751‘s Everett Union Hall, 8729 Airport Road. It is a fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America.

Nearly 1,100 long-term unemployed will receive training and support to help them land jobs in high-demand fields through a new $6 million National Emergency Grant. The new two-year grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor, adds to $4 million in federal funds recently allocated to address long-term unemployment in the state. Washington was one of 32 states to receive the Job-Driven National Emergency Grant.
During the national American Humane Association’s Adopt-A-Cat Month initiative in June, PAWS’ Companion Animal Shelter in Lynnwood and Cat City in Seattle’s University District waived adoption fees on Thursdays for cats over three years of age. As a result, 28 adult cats found homes. PAWS will extend its fee-waived initiative on cats 10 years and older throughout the summer.
