BRIDGEPORT — Snohomish County crews are among those battling a wildfire in Chelan County this week.
A county strike team includes firefighters from Getchell, Clearview, Sultan, Lake Stevens, Monroe, Arlington Rural and Gold Bar, officials said.
They were assigned to the blaze shortly after leaving another wildfire near Wenatchee.
The local crews were working on a hot spot Wednesday in a cherry orchard when they found a rabbit, firefighter Schuyler Murphy said.
The rabbit was overheated, sitting in burnt grass and not moving, firefighter Jeremy Stocker said. The rabbit was so scared it let the firefighters pick it up, Murphy said.
The crews sprayed the rabbit with cool water and moved it to an apple orchard, where it ran off, apparently unhurt, Stocker said.
“The rabbit appeared to welcome the comfort in being cooled down,” he said.
