Officials should be taking pay cut

Two items in the July 6 Herald caught my attention. “Ruling leads to $5 million in refunds” and “Elected county official pay raises set.”
The first article shows that schools, fire districts and hard-working taxpayers will carry the burden.
The second article shows that public servants will receive big gifts from the rest of us.
How many, much-needed and hard-working nurses and school teachers receive close to $100,000 a year? How many taxpayers even come close to half of a $100,000 a year?
My precious vote went to most of these elected officials; am I wrong to think that not only should they refuse these raises, but also take at least a 10 percent cut in their current pay?
Do they care about education, fire protection and the county taxpayers?
