The Register-Guard reports the sheriff’s office says the men went to the 23-year-old man’s home early Wednesday with a bat and several aggressive dogs. Officers say the men took turns hitting the victim with the bat, causing extensive head, face and back injuries. They apparently believed he had reported them to the Bureau of Land Management for trespassing on public land.
The sheriff’s office says when victim finally escaped, grabbed his shotgun and fired two rounds, the men fled to a nearby residence, where they called for police, saying they had been shot at.
Officers arrested two men, ages 25 and 27, for investigation of second-degree assault.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital.
