Associated Press
MONROE —Former University of Washington football coach Jim Lambright faces a court appearance next month on an assault charge.
The 72-year-old Lambright was arrested June 18 and has since been charged with fourth-degree assault on his 23-year-old granddaughter. His arraignment is set for Aug. 4 at Evergreen District Court in Monroe.
His granddaughter told sheriff’s deputies that Lambright tried to drag her out of the house by her ankle.
Court documents say Lambright told authorities he did not hurt her. He said he was sick of her attitude and didn’t understand why his grandchildren had to visit all the time.
Lambright’s wife told authorities he suffered from dementia.
The Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office said that as of Thursday no attorney had given notice of appearing on his behalf.
Lambright was head coach of the Huskies for six seasons, starting in 1992. A graduate of Everett High School, he played defensive end for Washington from 1962-64.
