SPOKANE — A Spokane County sheriff’s deputy is credited with saving the life of a newborn who wasn’t breathing after being delivered at home in Spokane Valley.
The sheriff’s office says deputy Randy Watts performed CPR on the baby girl, reviving her.
The deputy, who has basic medical training, was in the area when he heard an ambulance call. He went to the home and found the baby’s mother and midwife crouching over the baby on the floor. The girl was not breathing and didn’t have a detectable pulse.
Police say the deputy continued CPR after fire personnel arrived and performed chest compressions on the baby in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
The sheriff’s office says the baby reportedly was recovering well at the hospital.
