SPOKANE — Designated hitter Corey Simpson hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to lift the Everett AquaSox to a 3-2 Northwest League victory over the Spokane Indians on Sunday.
Spokane’s John Fasola retired the first two AquaSox batters in the ninth before Everett third baseman Kyle Petty singled to right field. Simpson followed with his fifth home run of the season, a shot over the left field wall, to give the AquaSox their 11th victory in 37 games.
Everett’s Kody Kerski pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth, walking one batter, to pick up his first save of the season.
Luiz Gohara started for the AquaSox, allowing one run on four hits while striking out five and walking one in six innings. Reliever Vinny Nittoli (1-1) picked up the victory for Everett, allowing one run on three hits in two innings.
Spokane starter Richelson Pena allowed one run on five hits while striking out four and walking one in seven innings.
The AquaSox took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, scoring on an RBI groundout by Kristian Brito. The Indians tied the score in the sixth on a home run by Saquan Johnson, and took a 2-1 lead in the eighth on an RBI single by Luke Tendler.
