Front Porch: Name a ferry

Name a ferry
Construction of the next 144-car ferry is under way and the Washington State Transportation Commission invites people from across the state to submit their ideas for the new boat’s name. Ferry name proposals will be accepted until Sept. 12.
Names for ferries should carry statewide significance and represent our state’s image and culture.
Specifically, names should represent such things as state symbols, tribal names, bodies of water, geographic locations, cities, counties, or relate to nautical heritage, etc.
Names should have broad familiarity, be non-offensive and meet ethical standards. Names with commercial overtones or names honoring or commemorating individuals should be avoided, but will be considered.
Submittals should be sent to P.O. Box 47308, Olympia, WA 98504-7308, or to transc@wstc.wa.gov. More info: www.wstc.wa.gov.
Septic care workshop in Stanwood: A Washington Sea Grant septic care expert is scheduled to present information on maintaining septic systems, recognizing problems, avoiding costly repairs and finding financial assistance.
The free septic care workshop is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Lake Goodwin Community Club, 17323 42nd Ave. NW in Stanwood.
