Prosecutors are recommending a 40-year prison sentence when 37-year-old Jose Luis Aguilar is sentenced in Benton County Superior Court.
The Tri-City Herald reports he pleaded guilty to first-degree rape of a child and second-degree murder in the death in June 2013 of Serenity Jade Reedy. The baby suffered skull fractures and other injuries.
Aguilar was a convicted low-level sex offender who had lived with the mother about a month when her baby was killed while she was sleeping.
Aguilar was arrested in Barstow, California, where police believed he was on his way to Mexico.
