And on the other end of the scale, seasoned competitors and pros will show off their skills for their crowd. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at City Cove and is $20. Water ski and wake board require separate registration. Call 425-444-8249 for more information.

See the stars: A star viewing party (weather permitting) begins at 8:45 p.m. Saturday at the Paradise Inn at Mount Rainier National Park. The event begins the the inn’s lobby, with a 30-minute talk about night skies. The party then moves outside near the Jackson Visitor Center. Star viewing begins at 10 p.m. If the weather cooperates, viewing will last until at least midnight. Telescopes will be available. If the weather is bad, the event moves inside for a Q&A with astronomers.

Dinosaurs: OK, so technically, this isn’t really an outdoor event. But who doesn’t want to see animatronic dinosaurs? And dinosaurs lived outside, right? Fifty of the life-sized creatures will be at Comcast Arena in Everett on Saturday and Sunday. Get all the details in our story here.

The first is 2 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 29. at the Mountaineers, 7700 Sand Point Way NE, Seattle. The second is 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at the Darrington Community Center, 570 Sauk Ave., Darrington. Space is limited. RSVP to mbs_pao@yahoo.com.

Adventure race: An open water swim race is on Aug. 2 on Whidbey Island. The swim is at Seawall Park in Langley. The course has been changed from previous years, and is now in shallower water, allowing more chances to see sealife on the sea floor. Get more info or register here. Entry deadline is July 31.

Bird trips: Pilchuck Audubon has a number of field trips planned in August. There is a trip on every Tuesday as well as two Saturdays, Aug. 2 and Aug. 23. Check out the events here.
