Marshawn Lynch’s holdout will end by Friday, both ESPN and the NFL Network are reporting. The team has not confirmed that Lynch is reporting to training camp, and when asked about the report, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said, “He’s still not here. I don’t really have anything for you at this point.”
Asked specifically about the report that Lynch would be here in the next 24 hours, Carroll said, “I don’t know. I don’t know that. That’d be good.”
Added quarterback Russell Wilson: “Hopefully he’s here. I don’t know. He’s such a good football player though, we’d love to have him here. He’s done a tremendous job for us and had some unbelievable runs for us, so we want him out here on the field.”
According to multiple reports, Lynch will be returning to the Seahawks without a new contract. That’s not all that surprising considering how little leverage a player has in these holdout situations as the fines pile up. As of Tuesday, the Seahawks were able to go after $225,000—15 percent of his prorated signing bonus—on top of the $30,000 for each day he missed. The Seahawks can forgive all or as much of those fines at their discretion, so if Lynch isn’t getting what he wants in the holdout, that could be a concession the team makes.
And if you need one more form of confirmation that Lynch is coming back, his mom wrote the following on Facebook: "To all my loyal 12s who remained that way during my family’s time of need, I thank you."
