STANWOOD — Crews were using heavy equipment on Sunday to break up a mulch pit fire east of Stanwood.
The fire was reported just before 2:30 p.m. in the 5200 block of Highway 532, said Joel Smith, a battalion chief with the North County Regional Fire Authority.
The pile included sawdust and wood chippings, and water wasn’t working to extinguish the fire, Smith said.
Folks in the area may see smoke from the fire for the next few days.
