The North Division and South Division pitching staffs both tossed 10-inning shutouts in the second annual Northwest League All-Star Game, which was hosted by the Eugene Emeralds, and the game ended in a 0-0 tie as it reached its innings limit.
There was a total of just nine hits between the two teams— five by the North, four by the South— as the pitching staffs dominated. A total of 17 pitchers combined to walk five and strike out 21 as scoring chances where nowhere to be found.
Two pitchers from the Everett AquaSox, who represented the North Division, played a part in the double-shutout.
Cruz Pereira pitched a scoreless bottom of the fourth inning. The left-hander allowed a one-out double to Boise's Mark Zagunis, but retired the other three batters he faced to keep the game scoreless.
Then Sox teammate Kody Kerski replaced Pereria at the start of the top of the fifth, and the right-hander opened the inning by walking Hillsboro's Grant Heyman. However, Kerski bounced back with three straight outs, including back-to-back strikeouts of Salem-Keizer's Travious Relaford and Boise's Rashad Crawford.
Everett had a total of six players named to the North team. Just one started as Austin Cousino began the game in left field. Cousino went 0-for-2 before being removed in the sixth inning.
Sox catcher Adam Martin had a nice moment in the bottom of the sixth. He had just entered the game when he threw out Eugene's Franchy Cordero trying to steal second. Martin finished 0-for-2 at the plate.
Everett's Chris Mariscal and Kyle Petty also entered the game in the bottom of the sixth, with Mariscal inserted at shortstop and Petty at first base. Petty beat out an infield single in the top of the seventh and advanced to third, but no one was able to drive him home to give the game its first run. Petty finished the game 1-for-2, Mariscal went 0-for-2.
