Big Cougar fire in Idaho 20 percent contained
The Big Cougar Fire has burned about 92 square miles. The burned acreage grew Friday but some of that was because of burnout operations by firefighters in the northern section of the fire.
The burnouts succeeded in tying the northern containment line west to the Snake River.
More than 440 firefighters aided by helicopters and boats are battling the fire that was started by lightning Aug. 2.
Elsewhere in Idaho, firefighters have reached 66 percent containment of several fires burning in northern Idaho and 10 percent containment on another fire burning south of the Big Cougar Fire in western Idaho.
