SPOKANE — A 25-year-old woman accused of throwing her 1-year-old son over a fence in Spokane told a witness, “The devil made me do it.”
Court papers filed Monday in Spokane say witnesses saw Destiny Ahenakew swing her son twice Saturday before tossing him over the fence above the Spokane River. He fell about 50 feet and was stopped by a tree. He was picked up by a witness.
KREM-TV reported that he was treated at a hospital and released by Monday. He’s now in the custody of state Child Protective Services.
Ahenakew had approached a man working at a home and asked him for water. After he gave her water he says he saw her throw the boy in the air.
Police arrested her for investigation of child assault.
