I spent an extremely enjoyable evening last night watching the lightning show. From the lawn chair in my back yard, I could hear that several of my neighbors were doing the same thing.

For a bit of fun, I tried to see whether I could capture video of the flashes with my phone. I managed to catch a few and created this extremely amateur video (above).

I bet, though, that you could do better. If you have lightning photos or videos, I'd love to see them. Drop me an email at jloerch@heraldnet.com or share them on our Facebook page. Or, if you like, tweet them at me @explorenw.

And it turns out you can do better: I knew you could. Several of you have kindly sent me photos. Click through above to see them all. And keep them coming.

Matthew Ackerman shared this video of a lightning strike in Everett. He has a frame-by-frame bit that really shows the progression of the lightning.

Chris Konings sent this fascinating video from the storm. The video was taken using a slow-motion feature.

Chris also shared this video:

We might get some more storms today. Hopefully with even more rain, because we really don't need any more fires in this state. Here's what the Associated Press said this morning:

Forecasters say thunderstorms that moved through Oregon and Washington on Monday will flare up again Tuesday.

Because of the risk that lightning will start more wildfires, the National Weather Service has a red flag warning in effect for most of both states. The thunderstorms also could be accompanied by gusty winds, hail and flash flooding, especially on lands scorched by wildfires.

Forecasters say showers could linger over the Northwest into Wednesday. The good news for people uncomfortable with Monday’s heat is that temperatures should be back to normal by Wednesday.

Check out the National Weather Service's forecast.
