Musician riding bike to Mount Rainier for Seattle Children's Hospital
Never have I received an email from an artist with the subject line "Let’s help the kids, Steven." Recently David Einmo, front man of Seattle band Head Like A Kite, wrote me an email that said just that.
You see, not only is Einmo a great performer on the stage, he is also a nurse at Seattle Children’s Hospital. In an effort to raise money to support the 36,000 kids that need emergency care at Seattle Children’s each year, Einmo is going on one heck of a bike ride and he is looking for sponsors. On August 14, Einmo and crew are going to ride their bicycles 110 miles to the glaciers of Mount Rainier.
But rather than me going on about this, read what Dave has to say about why this is important to him and then click here to support the program if you can and get some cool incentives:
“Raising money for these kids is really important to me because it's a chance to help kids get the care they need when an emergency strikes.
As a Seattle Children's nurse, I get to see firsthand how additional funding impacts the care of these kids. It's so inspiring to make a difference in a kid's life.
So when the Big Wheels of Hope guys asked me to help with this fundraiser, I immediately started planning out my bike route. Riding from Seattle to Sunrise seemed liked the logical choice since Head Like A Kite's "Wrong Side of Sunrise" is so close to home.
It's going to be brutally hard climbing nearly 10,000 feet over 110 miles. Turns out we have to ride up a volcano. My goal is to raise money for the ER rather than end up in an ambulance myself. But I'm confident we will arrive at the top with smiles on our weary faces. I've ridden most of the route in training rides. It's doable. Just long. It's a rare opportunity for me to combine so many of my passions: music, biking, and healthcare.
We'll start at Caffe Vita on Capitol Hill early in the AM and then ride to the glaciers of Mount Rainer. Pretty excited.”
