Senior Center built privately

In reply to Morgan Davis' letter, “Remodel annex for big savings”: He states that the Snohomish Senior Center was built “with taxpayer dollars.” I take issue with this. I was on the Board of Directors two years (prior and during the year of construction).
The center had a “building fund” for several years (five, that I know of). They were holding fundraisers, making private donations, many volunteers donated time and money. The building was built with private and corporate grants, donated labor and supplies. If taxpayer grants were used, they were a small portion. The building was paid for when we had our open house.
Yes, it was given to the city of Snohomish, with a lease-back; they provided the land. The center is still funded mostly with private funds. We receive some funding from Snohomish County and the city provides some.
Apparently, Mr. Morgan has not spent much time at the center, as most involved members know our background. All those public events we hold mostly are fundraisers. There is a $5 breakfast on the first Saturday of every month, consider this a special invitation.
