I want to enthusiastically applaud the latest addition to Arlington’s outstanding public outdoor art exhibition! The emerging mural is wrapped around the corner of a city building at the entrance to Haller Park. The mural, the creative expression of Camano artist Jillian Mattison, weaves together many historical and environmental themes.
It’s a joy to watch the young artists’ excitement as they fill in Jill’s sketches with brilliant paint colors, with support from Henrietta Wilson. The colorful mural is vibrant, fresh and imaginative. It provides an educational, and very playful, entry to Haller Park, with its recently expanded child-centered, family focus.
I live in the county close to Arlington, which is my adopted “home town.” I’m extremely grateful to all those who continue to contribute so much to our quality of life. Sarah Arney, president of the Arlington Arts Council, is a superb example of dedicated and effective community leadership.
A recent Sunday Herald comic strip stressed the importance of STEM education (Science, technology, engineering, math). One of the comic’s characters then urged that the emphasis should be on STEAM — “A” being art.
Again, my grateful thanks to all those who have contributed so much to STEAM in Arlington!
