South District Court Judge Jeffrey D. Goodwin faces a challenge in the November election from Brett Nagle.
It is one of three South District Court positions on the November ballot, but the only one that is contested.
The South District includes Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Brier, Woodway, Mill Creek and unincorporated areas of Snohomish County south of Mukilteo and west of Bothell.
Here are introductory statements from the two candidates:
Jeffrey Goodwin
Judge Jeffrey Goodwin was appointed in 2004 and has been a leader on the bench and in our community. With 10 years of judicial leadership and a 22-year career of legal excellence, Judge Goodwin is the most experienced and qualified choice for the District Court. He served two years as Presiding Judge, serves on the Statewide Ethics Advisory Panel, budget and strategic planning committees and helped establish the Mental Health Court in 2012. He serves our community through the Rotary Club of Lynnwood, Alderwood Boys and Girls Club, and his children’s PTSA. He lives in Bothell with his wife and children.
Judge Goodwin is broadly endorsed by attorneys, community leaders, elected officials and dozens of Judges, including Washington Supreme Court Justices; the Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace Police Officers Associations, Washington State Patrol Troopers Association, Snohomish County Deputy Sheriffs Association; 1st and 44th Legislative District Democrats and many more.
Brett Nagle
Brett has dedicated his life to our Snohomish County courts. He has experience in every area of our courts, serving the last decade as a Judge Pro-tem. Every elected Judge in Snohomish County District Court has called Brett to serve in their courtroom, on every type of case, because he is trusted to make fair and reasoned decisions in their absence.
As Judge, Brett will protect citizens by holding offenders accountable, reducing the number of repeat offenders, and use our resources wisely. Brett will work hard to keep us safe, and bring justice and fairness to all parties in the courtroom.
Brett Nagle is endorsed by Snohomish County Prosecutor Mark Roe, Snohomish County Public Defenders Association Director Bill Jaquette, and Snohomish County Council Member Terry Ryan. He has also received broad support from Democrats and Republicans, as well as many Snohomish County District, Superior, and Municipal Court Judges.
