I read the obituaries every day in The Herald. I notice when a young person dies a sudden death there rarely is a cause mentioned unless it is a car accident or health problem. That leads me to speculate as to the cause. I suspect at times that it’s drug related. For the last several days ending Sunday I have observed the obituary of a handsome young man named Joel Heinzen. The cause of death is listed as “heroin overdose.” I commend the Heinzen family for being brave and honest about such a tragedy. All families should follow suit if that tragedy falls upon them.
Families with teenagers should cut these obituaries out of the newspaper and hang them on the refrigerator for their teenagers to read. Maybe this would deter one young person from starting down the path of destruction.
