Pump it Up for Platelets benefit
A Pump it Up for Platelets benefit 5k walk in memory of Gracie Lindal will be held at 9 a.m. Aug. 23 at McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett.
Gracie died in December 2011 at 8 of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, a platelet disorder. The walking event honors her memory while raising awareness and funds for research, education and support.
Cost is $20, $10 for children. Scholarships are available. To register for the event, go to pdsa.donorpages.com/PumpItUpEverettWA2014.

Kickstarter success
In July, Everett musician and songwriter Jason Webley launched a campaign on the Kickstarter website to raise money for an album and book based on the life and writings of the late Margaret Rucker. At a concert at the Historic Everett Theatre April 11, Webley and other musicians performed original songs telling the story of the Everett woman’s scrapbook, which was found in a Dumpster in San Francisco. The Kickstarter goal was $11,111. At the close of the 30-day campaign Thursday, 1,862 supporters of the project had pledged $67,653.
At a celebration and performance Thursday night at The Cannery, an Everett Music Initiative venue, Webley announced that a “Margaret” CD-release concert is scheduled for Dec. 12 at Seattle’s Moore Theatre, which was built in 1907. The subject of the album was born Dec. 12, 1907 in Everett and died in California in 1959. Because of the campaign’s success, Webley plans concerts in Portland and Eugene, Oregon, and in San Francisco, and will send copies of the book to libraries around the country, especially in places where Margaret Rucker Armstrong and her family lived.
