VANCOUVER — A 22-year-old man is presumed drowned after divers couldn’t locate him at a Cowlitz County reservoir.
The Vancouver Columbian reports the man was identified as Stephen W. Rilea of Vancouver, Washington. Rilea was last seen swimming about 11:30 a.m. Saturday about 50 feet from shore when he went under water and did not surface. Nearby kayakers attempted to help him, but they were unsuccessful. Later on a diving team from the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s office couldn’t locate him as well.
Rilea is the second person to drown in Yale Reservoir this summer. On July 6, Austin H. Wolford, 19, of Vancouver, drowned in the reservoir while swimming with friends. On Aug. 11, a 2-year-old boy drowned in Siouxon Creek, a tributary of Yale Reservoir.
Rilea’s body was recovered Sunday afternoon.
