ARLINGTON — It has been a rough few days on Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office patrol cars.
A sheriff’s deputy sustained minor injuries late Sunday night after his patrol car struck a horse that got loose and was on the road.
The patrol car was damaged beyond repair.
The deputy was on duty and en route to a domestic violence call around midnight when the accident occurred in the 3900 block of Stanwood Bryant Road, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.
The horse died at the scene. The public works department was called to help remove the horse, Ireton said.
The deputy has been with the sheriff’s office since 2007. He was taken to a local hospital and later released. He is on leave to recover from his injuries.
Sunday night’s crash was the second time in five days a sheriff’s office patrol car was damaged beyond the value of repairing it.
Early Friday morning, an on-duty deputy lost control of his car early on Highway 92. His vehicle hit a guardrail and power box.
The deputy did not appear to be injured, but he was evaluated at a local hospital as a precaution.
The crash occurred near 113th Avenue NE.
The north precinct deputy, who has been with the sheriff’s office since 2010, was attempting to overtake another vehicle when his car went off the road. The accident was not part of a pursuit, officials said.
