The Tips held their first practices today since trimming the roster down following training camp. There are 30 players still with the team (listed with birth year):
Goaltenders (4) — Austin Lotz (95), Nik Amundrud (97), Mario Petit (97), Carter Hart (98).
Defensemen (9) — Ben Betker (94), Cole MacDonald (95), Carter Cochrane (96), Tristen Pfeifer (96), Lucas Skrumeda (96), Kevin Davis (97), Noah Juulsen (97), Jordan Wharrie (97), Jantzen Leslie (99).
Forwards (17) — Kohl Bauml (94), Zane Jones (94), Brayden Low (94), Logan Aasman (95), Remi Laurencelle (95), Carson Stadnyk (95), Chris Stockl (95), Dawson Leedahl (96), Graham Millar (96), Ivan Nikolishin (96), Tyler Sandhu (96), Patrick Bajkov (97), Matt Fonteyne (97), Nik Malenica (97), Addison Runey (97), Gunnar Wegleitner (98), Bryce Kindopp (99).
There are two players still listed on Everett’s roster, forward Jujhar Khaira (94) and defenseman Mirco Mueller (95) who didn’t attend camp. Khaira, as a signed 20-year-old, is all but gone to the professional ranks. Mueller, as a 19-year-old, has to make the San Jose Sharks’ roster to play in the pros, otherwise he’ll be returned to Everett.
There’s no real surprises here. The only player who attended camp and had a realistic chance of making the team this season who isn’t still here is 16-year-old goaltender Dayton Rasmussen, a player the Tips still have to sell on coming to Everett. It’s interesting that the only 16-year-old skater who still has a chance to make the team (Wegleitner) is a player who wasn’t even on Everett’s protected list when camp began.
This is actually a pretty trim roster for this point in the postseason, especially when you consider two of the players are 15-year-olds (Leslie and Kindopp) and therefore too young to make the team. Everett has a three-in-three weekend coming up as it hosts the Holiday Inn Preseason Classic. Not all these players are signed, either, meaning there’s probably going to be several players who have to play in all three games.
Speaking of signings, my understanding is the Tips have some in the works, so we’ll probably be seeing something prior to the tournament beginning Friday.
